Professor Marvin Reid of UWI visited the Global Health Academy and Northwell Health as Jamaica became the Academy’s 10th partner country. Over two days, he met leadership, explored collaboration in education and research, delivered lectures on Jamaica’s health priorities and sickle cell disease, and identified opportunities for future joint programs across UWI, the Academy, and Northwell.

The July 2026 Global Health Academy Newsletter highlights a successful Youth Academy Summer School that empowered future health leaders through leadership and wellness training. Featured updates include global health site visits in the Philippines and Vietnam, international student electives across five countries, a Botswana healthcare equipment donation, insights from the latest GHA Dialogues session on malaria, and preparations for the Fifth Annual Global Health Conference.


Site Visit: Bicol University, Philippines
In late June, Global Health representatives Dr. Mariah McNamara and Anastasia Zholud visited Bicol University College of Medicine in Legazpi City, Philippines. The ten-day site visit supported UVM students beginning their Global Health Elective, strengthened academic partnerships, and included participation in the impactful BU Floating Clinic mission. The visit highlighted a shared commitment to global health education, collaboration, and service.


Jamaica Site Visit: Exploring a New Global Health Partnership with the University of the West Indies and the University Hospital of the West Indies
In March 2026, a joint Nuvance Health–Northwell Health delegation visited Kingston, Jamaica, to explore a new global health partnership with the University of the West Indies and the University Hospital of the West Indies. The visit assessed education and clinical capacity, emphasized bi-directional exchange and the Global Health Scholars Program, and laid the groundwork for a formal, equitable collaboration.
